In the basement, we had a perfect spot for storage. It was off set about 2.5 feet but had an overhang. So, essentially useless for any activity, but perfect for putting boxes to store things.
The real problem was that it was directly at the bottom of the stairs. Storing boxes made it pretty ugly to see every time we went down there. The dimensions were to long, about 12 feet, and narrow (2.5 feet) to put up a wall; there would be no access. So barn doors were the answer… 12-15 feet+ of barn doors.

Design was important. Replacing ugly, stacked boxes with an ugly door wasn’t the improvement we were looking for. So, we opted for a geometric design that tied the four barn doors together.
To get the alignment just right, we had to be pretty spot on with the layout and the cuts on each door. Essentially, we have two sets of mirror image doors.

The doors are layered 1/2 ply with 1/4 MDF for a smoot surface. Then the patterns are 1-by pines.
